Missionary Discipleship
Neighborhood Services
The church is situated in a widely diverse area of downtown Detroit. Our community works closely with people in the neighborhood to address the needs of companionship, food, clothing, and emergency shelter. We also focus on the critical needs of the tenants of many low-income housing buildings in the area. Our parish nurse works to address health and wholeness within our community-at-large. Originally this service began as a soup kitchen, which later closed, but now we provide these services in a smaller fashion: on the streets and in community housing areas. This ministry means we are focused on going to the people, rather than them coming to us.
St. Aloysius is often called “Everybody’s Church”; so today we take the church to the people, and the work is more than rewarding. It enables us to see those in need with compassion, and provides an opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet to our brothers and sisters. Whether you’re a new or long-time parishioner, we invite you to join us in our outreach to our vibrant and diverse community.
We’re always in need of more willing hands to help us be Christ’s Hands and Feet to our community downtown, and we’d love for you to join us. If you’re interested in any of these services, click the button below to volunteer!
