Weddings at St. Aloysius
Congratulations on your engagement!
Marriage is a covenant between two people who vow to love each other as long as they live, for the good of each other, and for the children they may raise. Couples prepare for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony by strengthening their faith, both as an individual and as a couple, and deepening their understanding of marriage. Because the Catholic Church considers marriage a sacrament, we want couples to be well-prepared. Rather than a burden, couples are encouraged to view this time of preparation as a way of getting to know each other better and growing closer to Christ.
Non-parishioners are welcome to get married here, but you must complete your marriage prep classes at your home parish/the church you are currently attending. If you do not currently have a parish home, please research the churches in your area and register for a parish. It is important to make attending Sunday Mass a priority during the marriage prep process and after you are married. Once you have registered at the parish, connect with their marriage coordinator to begin the marriage prep classes. This should be done AT LEAST 6 months prior to your wedding date; 8 months is preferred.
In the Catholic Church, marriage prep must be initiated at least 6 months before the wedding date.
Your date will not be secured on our calendar until you have submitted your deposit, priest permission letter (if you are not parishioners), and signed contract.
To schedule a date, please submit a wedding inquiry.
Marriage Preparation Outline (if completed at St. Aloysius):
- Schedule an initial meeting with Father to fill out the A-form.
- Participate in a pre-marital inventory assessment and marriage preparation courses with a marriage prep counselor.
- Submit relevant sacramental records (i.e., Baptism, Confirmation) to the parish. Ask for your current certificate of baptism with sacramental notation from the church of your baptism. The church should mail us a physical copy with the parish seal.
- Attend a marriage preparation retreat. Options can be found here: https://www.aod.org/events/calendar/marriage
- Complete Natural Family Planning (NFP) Course: https://learn.aod.org/courses/nfp
- Complete the Liturgy Planning Guide sent 3 months before the wedding date to select readings, music, and other elements.
- Schedule a final meeting with Father.
- Schedule wedding rehearsal- typically the night before the wedding at 5:30pm or 6:00pm and will last about an hour. Note- please be respectful of the rehearsal/day of wedding coordinator’s time and have everyone arrive on time (give them a heads up about the parking situation).
If your marriage prep is completed at another parish, please ensure the completed file is sent to St. Aloysius at least two months prior to your wedding date.
